PUSAT Pameran Perdagangan Antarabangsa Malaysia (MITEC), kluster baru yang menempatkan venue bagi lapan sukan bagi Sukan SEA dan lima bagi Sukan Para ASEAN, dijangka siap digunakan untuk acara ujian pada pertengahan tahun ini.
Berbaki 212 hari sebelum bermulanya Sukan SEA ke-29, Ketua Pegawai Operasi Sekretariat Jawatankuasa Pengelola Malaysia (MASOC) Kuala Lumpur 2017 En Shaiful Subhan mengesahkan kerja pembinaan kluster kedua terbesar bagi temasya Kuala Lumpur 2017 itu sudah siap manakala kerja menaik taraf and memperindah kawasan berada di fasa terakhir.
Lapan jenis sukan yang dipertandingkan di MITEC termasuk Tinju, Lawan Pedang, Gimnastik (artistik dan gimrama), Hoki Dalam Dewan, Muay, Ping Pong, Bola Tampar dan Angkat Berat.
Manakala, daripada 16 sukan yang tersenarai pada Sukan Para ASEAN ke-9 September ini, tujuh akan berlangsung di MITEC iaitu Boccia, Catur, Goalball, Powerlifting, Ping Pong, Bola Tampar Duduk dan Bola Keranjang Kerusi Roda.
Bercakap kepada wartawan selepas sesi lawatan Sekretariat MASOC ke MITEC bersama pengurus dan pegawai sukan terbabit, En Shaiful berkata sukan-sukan yang dipertandingkan di venue itu sudah dimuktamadkan manakala acara ujian dijadualkan pada pertengahan tahun ini.
Selain pegawai utama MASOC, turut terbabit dalam lawatan dua jam itu termasuk wakil persatuan sukan , wakil Polis di Raja Malaysia (PDRM), Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) serta Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL). Taklimat lawatan disampaikan oleh Eksekutif Perancangan dan Pembangunan Naza TTDI Sdn Bhd, Ahmad Nizam Ahmad Basuki.
“Acara ujian untuk Sukan SEA akan dijalankan pertengahan tahun dan kami sedang berbincang dengan MITEC, kerana selepas mereka menyerahkan bangunan kepada pihak NAZA Corporation yang menjadi operator, kami akan mempunyai masa untuk merancang bagi kejohanan Pra-Sukan SEA pada pertengahan tahun,” kata Shaiful.
MITEC juga bakal menjadi tumpuan wakil media cetak dan elektronik tempatan dan antarabangsa kerana menempatkan Pusat Media Utama (MPC) dan juga Pusat Penyiaran Antarabangsa (IBC) yang akan beroperasi sebelum dan sepanjang temasya Kuala Lumpur 2017.
MITEC, yang mula dibina sejak Oktober 2012, merupakan kluster kedua terbesar bagi venue temasya Kuala Lumpur 2017 selepas KL Sports City di Bukit Jalil dan kluster ketiga di Pusat Konvensyen Kuala Lumpur (KLCC).
KL2017: MITEC TO HOST 15 SPORTS
THE Malaysian International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), the second biggest cluster which will be the hub for 15 sports during the 29th SEA Games and 9th ASEAN Para Games, will be ready on time with test events expected to be held in middle of the year.
With 212 days before the SEA Games 2017 commences in August, Malaysia Organising Committee (MASOC) Kuala Lumpur 2017 Chief Operating Officer En Shaiful Subhan confirmed that major construction works at MITEC had been completed, saying that venues at the cluster will be ready to host any test events by June.
The eight SEA Games sports listed to be contested at MITEC are boxing, fencing, gymnastics (artistic and rhythmic gymnastic), indoor hockey, table tennis, volleyball and weightlifting.
Of the 16 Para sports, seven are slated to be held at cluster, namely boccia, chess, goalball, powerlifting, table tennis, volleyball-sitting and wheelchair basketball.
Speaking to the media after visiting MITEC with representatives from various sports associations and agencies today (18 Jan 2016), En Shaiful said venues for the sports had been confirmed and finalized.
Also present during the venue visit were the Games sports and venue managers, representatives from various agencies including the Royal Malaysian Police, Road Transport Department and Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
“The SEA Games test events are expected to be held sometime in the middle of the year, we are currently discussing with MITEC on the planning and execution of those events prior to the SEA Games,” said Shaiful.
MITEC is also expected to be a hive of activity prior and during the Games as more than 800 representatives from the print and electronic media will be making the cluster their main working base as it houses both the Main Press Centre (MPC) and the International Broadcast Centre at the ground floor of the building.
Apart from MITEC, the other main clusters for the Games are the KL Sports City in Bukit Jalil and Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
