Things worked well for Malaysia’s new mixed doubles pair of Chan Peng Soon-Cheah Yee See as they reached the last four in the USD600,000 Victor Korea Open – their semi-finals in a Super Series event.
The Malaysians staged a strong come back from a game down to beat homesters Seo Seung-jae-Kim Ha-na 13-21, 21-10, 21-18 in 72 minutes. T
They next face China’s Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping for a historic place in Sunday’s final. The Chinese defeated Japan’s Yuki Kaneko-Koharu Yonemoto also in three games 17-21, 27-25, 21-19 also in 72 minutes.
However, it was the end of the road for another Malaysian pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie who were expected to breeze into the last four but instead fell to a shock defeat to unheralded Mervin Emil Seidel-Linda Efler.
It was all the more shocking as the Germans were promoted from the qualifying rounds following withdrawals and had never won a match in the main draw of a Super Series event in the past.
The Malaysians, ranked No 18, easily won the first game 21-18 but simply lost their rhythm and focus and went down 13-21, 18-21 in the next two games.
