A parade to celebrate Johor as host of Monsoon Cup Malaysia 2015/16 was held today around the city of Johor Bahru.
A convoy of12 four-wheel drive vehicles, 10 motorbikes and 11 scooters from all over Malaysia started off at the Dataran Bandaraya with a police escort and made their first stop at the Johor Bahru City Council office in the southern state’s capital.
The 70 participant-strong group included 10 Monsoon Cup Malaysia ambassadors distributing flyers about the sailing event as well as a performance troupe Nakasutra Drum Symphony.
Their next stop was Komtar JBCC before making their way to the Larkin Sentral. From there, the convoy continued on to their final stop at theCustoms, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex and Kotaraya.
“We are very happy to have the parade to increase the awareness about Monsoon Cup Malaysia and it being the public holiday of Thaipusam, the convoy were able to reach out to many Johor Bahru residents who were out and about,” said Arif Yap, Monsoon Cup Malaysia event manager.
This is the second time Johor is hosting the Monsoon Cup Malaysia and Puteri Harbour is the venue with the opening ceremony held tomorrow afternoon (Monday) and races to start Tuesday.
Besides the main racing event, there are various activities on the sidelines for visitors to take part and enjoy which include a sailing simulator, games, parkour demonstration and performances.
The organiser will also arrange for complimentary shuttle buses for the public who could alight at designated pick up points to the venue.
