National striker Rozaimi Abd Rahman, 23, is said to have suffered serious injuries following a car accident at KM3.5 Jalan Tuaran, today.
Rozaimi who suffered serious injuries to his head and legs has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, here.
The driver of the Honda Civic car in which Rozaimi was travelling, AK Mohd Farris Mahamud, 21, was also admitted to the ICU of the same hospital.
“The condition of both the injured is critical,” said Kota Kinabalu police chief ACP M Chandra in a statement, here today.
According to Chandra, Rozaimi and Mohd Farris were heading to Kota Kinabalu from Inanam when the car lost control and hit and tree and lamp post before crashing into the pillar of a house.
Sabah Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Mohd Affendy K. Ramin said the department had received a distress call at 1.34pm today and firemen arrived at the scene about 10 minutes later.
He said initial reports said a Honda car had met with an accident and two people were trapped inside the vehicle.
Firemen managed to extricate the two injured people from the mangled car while an ambulance later took them to hospital.
Police are expected to issue a statement about the accident and the condition of the injured, later.
Rozaimi, currently playing for Sabah, made his international debut for the country against Sri Lanka in 2012 and has since become a promising player in the national squad. – BERNAMA
