On the road in a classic SL
Exclusive classic car tours for Mercedes-Benz fans
A leisurely tour through the South of France in a Pagoda SL, exploring winding coastal roads and romantic villages – it sounds like the perfect short break.
Or perhaps you’d prefer to spend your day coasting along cypress-lined avenues in a 1970s SL, past vineyards and olive groves, before sitting down to savour the Tuscan cuisine?
Mercedes-Benz is now offering self-drive tours in the classic Mercedes-Benz SL (W 113 and R 107) in partnership with Munich-based specialist tour operator Nostalgic. The new “Classic Car Travel” programme is the brainchild of Daimler Business Innovation.
“There are lots of people who dream of spending their holiday touring in a classic sports car like the SL, but who baulk at the expense of purchasing and maintaining a vehicle like that. With ‘Classic Car Travel’ you can now enjoy the experience of driving a classic car along some of Europe’s dream routes without actually owning your own classic”, explained project manager Thomas Eisenbarth of Daimler Business Innovation.
In total ten SL models from the W 113 (1963 – 1971) and R 107 (1971 – 1989) model series will be available for the start of the new travel programme. The vehicles will be swapped over during the course of the tour so that guests can enjoy driving different models and engine variants.
Carefully selected routes and perfect all-round service
“We have been providing classic car tours since 2003, and are delighted now to be able to work with Mercedes-Benz to bring all the excitement of the classic car, and specifically the SL to a large community of fans”, stated Gert Pichler, one of the two founders of Nostalgic GmbH.
“We have carefully selected routes that are a little off the beaten track and that showcase some stunning scenery. And the accommodation, restaurants and sightseeing opportunities all combine to provide our guests with an authentic experience of the region.”
Perfect all-round service includes an introduction to the car, a roadbook with a detailed guide to the route, accommodation and breakfast in renowned hotels, and an English-speaking tour guide and service team in a support vehicle. The first tours, for small groups of up to 18 people, will take place in France and Italy.
Each tour costs 1975 euros per person, sharing a double room. Services include transfers to and from the airport, a Mercedes-Benz SL classic car for self-drive, with fully comprehensive and passenger insurance and fuel, accommodation and breakfast at the hotel, admission and guided visits, a tour guide and service team, a roadbook and a welcome gift. For further information and booking, go to mercedes-benz.com/classiccartravel
