Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin expressed confidence that the newly elected office bearers of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) would help the ministry to organise the best ever SEA Games in 2017.
Khairy therefore urged the OCM to assist and strengthen a number of National Sports Associations (NSA) that are weak in the aspects of management and finance.
“Some NSAs are always seeking funds from the ministry. The OCM must ensure that such NSAs are strengthened. I hope throughout the 2015-2017 term, the OCM can focus on strengthening the NSAs,” he told Bernama when met after chairing a Pemuda UMNO exco meeting, here Monday.
Khairy said there would be no problem for him to continue working closely with the OCM, especially OCM President Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja’afar who managed to retain his post at the recent OCM Annual General Meeting (AGM).
On Saturday, Tunku Imran who was first elected as OCM President in 1998, beat Golf Association of Malaysia (MGA) President Tan Sri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor.
However, his deputy Tan Sri Mohamad Noor Abdul Rahim Mohamad Noor failed to defend his seat after losing to Badminton Association of Malaysia deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Norza Zakaria. – BERNAMA
