The Rio Olympics silver medallists showed an elegant form to oust the Japanese with a straight game 21-18, 21-16 win in 42 minutes at the Odense Sports Park and earn a quarter-final clash against Korea’s Seo Seung-jae-Chae Yujung.
The Koreans upset fourth seeds Tang Chun Mann-Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong in a three-game thriller to prevail 21-12, 17-21, 22-20 in 59 minutes.
In the first round, Peng Soon-Liu Ying beat Jacco Arends-Selena Piek of the Netherlands in a come-from-behind 18-21, 21-19, 21-16.
Joining Peng Soon-Li Ying in the last eight is another Malaysian mixed doubles hope Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie. Ranked ninth the Malaysians outplayed China’s Lu Kai-Chen Lu 21-16, 21-7 in only 27 minutes.
The seventh-seeded Malaysians will face a Thai hurdle in Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai. The Thais stunned second seeds Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping of China – winning 21-14, 21-15 in a 34-minute encounter.
