* Pahang hold Global FC to a scoreless draw to finish second in Group G
* South China whip Yadanarbon FC to top group with unbeaten record
Pahang secured the vital point with a scoreless draw against Global FC of the Philippines at the Philippines Sports Stadium, Bocaue City in Bulacan on Wednesday.
With the draw Pahang finished runners-up in Group G with eight points behind Hong Kong’s South China FC who thrashed Myanmar’s Yadanarbon FC at the Mandalar Thiri Stadium in Mandalay in another Group G match to top the group with unbeaten record with 18 points.
Pahang thus joined Johor Darul Takzim in the Round of 16. The Malaysian Super League champions topped Group F and will play India’s Bengaluru FC next at the Larkin Stadium on May 27.
Global FC, playing in their first AFC Cup, completed their group fixtures with five points and needed to beat Pahang by a big margin to have any hopes of advancing. The first round match in Kuantan, Global FC held Pahang to a scoreless draw on March 11.
Pahang will no switch their focus to the FA Cup second-leg semi-finals against Kelantan at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium this Saturday. The Elephants are the defending champions and take a one goal cushion from the 1-0 win over the Red Warriors from the first-leg in Kuantan last Saturday.
Meanwhile, South China romped to a 3-0 win over Yadanarbon with a brace from strikers Daniel McBreen (27th and 60th) and Lam Kok Hei.
Yadanarbon finished at the bottom of the group with three points.
