Malaysia’s No 1 mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying failed to make the final in the USD750,000 Xianmenair Australian Open Superseries Premier in Sydney on Saturday.
The seventh seeded Malaysians fell in the semi-finals – losing 15-21, 12-21 in the 41 minutes to China’s world No 10 Lu Kai-Huang Yaqiong – thus ending the hopes of a second superseries final this year.
Peng Soon-Liu Ying, who will carry’s challenge in the Rio Olympics in August were beaten in this year’s Malaysia Open in Shah Alam.
And it will be an all-China final in the mixed doubles after Zheng Siwei-Chen Qingchen upset sixth seeds and All-England champion Praveen Jordan-Debby Susanto in three sets – winning 19-21, 21-11, 21-6 in 54 minutes.
In the men’s singles final Denmark’s Thomas Cup hero Hans-Kristian Vittinghus carved out a 22-20, 21-13 win over India’s K. Srikanth.
The Dane will face South Korean Jeon Hyeok-jin in Sunday final. The Korean prevailed 21-19, 16-21, 21-19 in a 79 minute battle against giant killer Anthony Ginting of Indonesia. Anthony had beaten top seed and world champion Chen Long of China in the quarter-finals.
India’s Saina Nehwal gave herself a big boost for the Rio Olympics with a dominant performance against 2011 world champion and 2012 London Olympics silver medallist Wang Yihan of China with a 21-8, 21-12 win in 31 minutes.
Saina, the 2014 Australian champion will face China’s Sun Yu in the final. Sun Yu was equally impressive in her 21-18, 21-19 win over her senior compatriot Li Xuerui -the reigning Olympic champion.
The men’s doubles final will be an all-Indonesian affair between Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Suwardi and Angga Pratama-Ricky Karanda Suwardi – seeded seventh and sixth respectively.
Gideon-Suwardi outplayed China’s Liu Cheng-Zheng Siwei 21-17, 21-11 in 30 minutes while Angga-Ricky defeated compatriots Berry Angriawan-Rian Agung Saputro 21-16, 21-14.
The women’s doubles final will be between Indonesian second seeds Nitya Krishinda Maheswari-Greysia Polii and China’s Bao Yixin-Chen Qingchen.
