# Indiscipline costly for Olympian Tabel
# Table appeals to be reinstated to the national team
One of Philippines’ top woman marathon runner Mary Joy Tabel is appealing to the Philippines Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) to be reinstated to the national team with the hope of making it to the 2017 Kuala Lumpur Sea Games in August.
The 27-year-old from Cebu has been left out of the initial list of 30 athletes for approval to represent the country in the biennial games.
Table is the first female marathoner from the Philippines to have run in the Olympics and this was at the Rio Olympics in Brazil last year.
At the recent Ottawa Half-Marathon in Canada the Filipina came out tops in the women’s category,
Reports emerging from the Philippines says that Tabel was dropped from the national team for gross indiscipline.
PATAFA chief Philip Ella Juico gave broad hints that the door is virtually closed on Tabel making the team to Kuala Lumpur.
Tabel has been training and competing overseas on her own after being dropped from the national team.
“She created her own problems by opting out of the national team and taking our governance rules for granted,” Juico was quoted by philstar, com.
“There is no special treatment here at PATAFA. One cannot eat steak here while others are eating hamburgers.
“There are no VIPs here at PATAFA,” added Juico. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
