Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score 400 goals across Europe’s top five leagues.
It wasn’t enough on Saturday, however, to maintain Juventus’ perfect start to the season.
Miralem Pjanic, Juventus midfielder said, “Yes, there is a bit of anger in the locker room and we are quite disappointed with this result. We wanted to win of course, but maybe we were missing that will to wrap up this game once and for all. When you are 1-0 up, you have to think that your opponents are still into the game because out of nothing, as they showed today, they were able to score a goal. Congratulations to them but we feel sorry about it because we wanted to continue this nicer run that Juventus were on up until now.”
Ronaldo, who has been accused of rape in a civil lawsuit in the United States, scored in the 1-1 draw against Genoa.
It was his fifth Serie A goal in nine matches.
Ronaldo has 311 goals in La Liga for Real Madrid, and 84 in the English Premier League for Manchester United.
Juventus had won all of their previous 10 matches across Serie A and the UEFA Champions League.
Ronaldo had last weekend off while Juventus were idle during the international break.
Normally the star of his national team, he was left out of Portugal’s squad.
Ronaldo started brightly: a header came off the crossbar and he drew a save from Genoa goalkeeper Ionut Radu in the opening 14 minutes.
Less than five minutes later, he scored.
There was a miscommunication between Radu and his defender on Joao Cancelo’s cross from the left, allowing Ronaldo a simple tap-in at the far post.
Genoa hadn’t scored at Juventus since January 2013, but this time featured Krzysztof Piatek, who scored in each of their previous seven Serie A matches and had a league-best nine goals.
However, it wasn’t the Poland forward who netted the equaliser but Daniel Bessa with a header in the 67th minute as the Juventus defence was caught napping when Christian Kouame managed to keep the ball in play before whipping in a cross.
It was a memorable first match back in charge for Ivan Juric, who returned to Genoa for his third spell as coach.SNTV
