Poland retained their FIVB Men’s World Championship title on Sunday (30th September) after beating Brazil in straight sets to claim gold in Turin, Italy.
Poland powered past Brazil in the 2018 FIVB Men’s World Championship final on Sunday, beating the South Americans 3-0 to claim a third world title.
The Eastern European country had previously won the FIVB Men’s World Championship in 1974 and 2014.
In a repeat of the 2014 final, Poland were led by yet another solid performance from Bartosz Kurek.
He scored 24 points and managed two blocks and two aces.
Brazil were absolutely shut down by Poland, who disabled their opponents’ attacking power.
Artur Szalpuk and Pawel Zatorski outplayed both Wallace De Souza and Lucas Saatkamp, conceding only a couple of aces and completing an overall 69 per cent reception.
De Souza made the most significant contribution to Brazil’s attack in the match, scoring 14 points.
A comeback was on its way thanks to two big serves from Evandro and Bruno Rezende, but Brazil could not maintain the momentum.
Kurek managed to kill the match with his attacking prowess, and Poland wrapped up a straight sets win in one hour and 37 minutes. SNTV
