The Malaysia Organising Committee (MASOC) Kuala Lumpur 2017 can look forward to a seamless competition at the SEA Games in August following the successful organisation of the Pre-SEA Games Silat Championships which concluded recently at the Mahaguru Omardin Lincah Complex in Gombak.

The new digital scoring system, introduced and applied for the first time at the Championships, received the thumbs up from participating teams.

The National Silat Federation (PESAKA) Secretary, Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said, athletes and officials expressed satisfaction over the efficiency of the new system despite minor flaws which will be ironed out. With some improvement, PESAKA believes they are set to be a pioneer of the system.

The Championships, which saw the participation of 118 silat exponents from seven South East Asian nations, provided organisers the opportunity to test the system and other technical aspects of the organisation.

The organisers expressed satisfaction over the handling of some of the crucial aspects such as transportation, food and beverage, competition schedule, announcement of exponents, order of play, allocation of time up to victory ceremonies.

Secretariat officials and volunteers did well in providing efficient services, ensuring a smooth five-day championship.  “These are the same officials who will manage the secretariat during the SEA Games. The tournament served as a dry run to us and I’m glad that they everyone has carried out their duties effectively,” said Datuk Megat Zulkarnain.

“Competitions were completed in the stipulated time, avoiding past occurrences when we sometimes had to drag the competition past midnight,” he added.

“We immediately overcome technical issues such as the abrupt shutdown of computers during competition. We’ll work on that to avoid such incident during Games time,” he said.

Meanwhile, PESAKA is pleased with the performance of the national contingent following the its nine gold medal haul, which saw Malaysia taking the overall crown.

“We’re quite pleased with our achievement. It’s still early days but we’re all geared up not only for SEA Games, but for the 2018 Asian Games as well,” said Datuk Megat Zulkarnain.
