Ramdan Rosli is set to rev up his racing experience in the Moto2 World Championship following PETRONAS AHM Malaysia’s announcement that he will contest as a wildcard at the Australian and Malaysian Grand Prix respectively over the next two weekends. The PETRONAS Talent Development (PTD) rider is no stranger to the MotoGP paddock, and the races in Australia and Malaysia bring his wildcard tally to five since he started competing full time in the Spanish National Championship (CEV) in 2014. In comparison, Hafizh Syahrin, another PTD rider, contested as a wildcard in six races before making the jump to the world championships.
Despite the obvious challenge of racing against the world’s quickest riders, Ramdan remains confident of a solid performance and he intends to use his new race experience and knowledge to produce strong results at the Moto2 European Championship season finale in Valencia this November. Currently the 20-year old is ranked 15th overall in the Moto2 European Championship standings.
“Thanks to the team and PETRONAS, we managed to secure a back-to-back Moto2 wildcard entry and I’m looking forward to the challenge!” he said.
Speaking about his expectations, Ramdan said, “Australia will be a new track for me so there are heaps to learn in terms of riding and technical know-how.
Malaysia will always be special because it is my home race. Last year I finished 24th so the aim this year is to step it up and finish in the top-20. Finishing within the points in front of my home crowd would be a bonus!”
Ramdan was first discovered by team manager Kenny Chua as a 12-year-old with noticable potential. Throughout the years, he has grabbed multiple titles in the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship and has made waves at the regional Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) before moving to the Spanish National Championship (CEV Repsol) in 2014.
