Sabah Tennis had the rare opportunity of having world renown coach Ian Barclay to give a session for Sabah players and coaches at the Sutera Resort KK last week.
This session was made possible through the good heart effort of past STA president William Math’s friend Steven Salter from England..
Salter had promised STA president Johnson Koh that he would one day bring a world renowned coach to Sabah.
True to his words he brought Ian Barclay who came with him to holiday in Sabah.
A day before veteran players played with Ian who is 77 years old but still very active coaching and playing. Ian’s career highlight was when Pat Cash – whom he coached – won the Wimbledon singles champion.
STA coach and President arranged top Sabah juniors to have a session with Ian
Christian Chin, Nurshaneem Shamsuddin, Brandon Billy, Clarissa Sham and Stefan Alex came for the session. Coach Tito Latoja, Shamsuddin Mustamin and Claire Godon joined in the session.
Ian watch them play and corrected their errors and also gave them methods to play better tennis using better techniques and styles to counter weaknesses.
The coaches were also told how to spot errors and correct them for better approach to coaching all tennis players.
The two-hour session was very impressive and was well received by the juniors and coaches including the veteran players who were present.
