Suphanburi FC have earned a reprieve when they have been allowed to stay in Thai League One for the 2020 season following the withdrawal of PTT Rayong FC.
Suphanburi were relegation-bound after they finished in the bottom three of the Thai League One 2019 alongside Chainat (15th) and Chiangmai (16th) in the 16-team league.
But following the withdrawal of PTT Rayong, who finished 11th in the league and where they have decided to withdraw from the league altogether, it has allowed Suphanburi the chance to continue to see top-flight action for 2020.
“As a result, Suphanburi (who were third from last) will remain in the top league next season,” said FAT general secretary Korrawee Pritsananantakul, who is also deputy chairman of the league’s organising committee.
As such, there will only be 17 teams for Thai League 2 in 2020.
The three teams which have gained promotion to Thai League One from League Two are BG Pathum United, Police Tero and Rayong FC.
