The national shuttlers competing in the forthcoming BWF World Championships and KL SEA Games took some time off to meet their fans and also watch the Grand Final of the 100PLUS Active All Malaysia Badminton Championship here today.
The atmosphere was thrilling as the fans had the chance to meet the likes of Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Goh V Shem, Tan Wee Kiong, Chan Peng Soon and Goh Jin Wei, all of whom are 100PLUS Brand Ambassadors. The players are in the final stages of their preparations for the two major meets later this month.
âDatuk Lee and the other players have been working very hard for the World Championships and the KL SEA Games for the past few months. Itâs going to be a challenging time for them and they must get all the support possible,â said Ms Leong Wai Yin, Marketing Manager, F&N Beverage Marketing. âToday, we want to wish them all the best before they embark on their challenging mission to bring honour and glory to the country.â
For the players heading for the World Championships and those staying back for the KL SEA Games, todayâs function proved to be a rousing send-off for them. Chong Wei along with doubles aces, V Shem-Wee Kiong will be heading to Glasgow next week while Peng Soon and Jin Wei will remain in the country to battle for gold at the KL SEA Games.
Meanwhile, the Grand Finals of the 100PLUS Active All Malaysia Badminton Championship was held at the Quill Mall in KL this afternoon. This tournament creates a platform for social media players to compete with each other. 100PLUS ACTIVE is the presenting sponsor for this unique event.
In the past two months, three qualifying rounds were staged in Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Melaka, with over 651 players representing 83 teams vying for cash and prizes amounting to RM100,000.
âThis tournament was a great opportunity to unearth talents in the country,â Wai Yin commented.
Team Eagle A defeated Team Big Planet 2-0 in a closely contested final. They pushed themselves to the edge and managed to overcome their final opponents to claim the top purse of RM25,000 while Team Big Planet Travel pocketed RM10,000. The prizes were given away by the national players, which proved to be a bonus for the finalists today.
