Former kingpins Selangor lost 3-2 to defending champions Johor Darul Takzim in a second round Malaysian Super League match at the Larkin Stadium in Johor Bahru on Wednesday – a defeat which head coach B. Satianathan took in his stride.
Satianathan, however, was blowing hot by a certain group of Selangor fans for their “vulgarity” used on him when he was walking back to the dressing room after the match.
“This seems to be a new culture in Selangor and I am really hurt by the vulgar words used on me. What hurts me more is that this group of Selangor fans was seated in the grandstand at the (Larkin) stadium,’ said a disappointed Satianathan.
The former national coach added that such a situation could and is destroying MFL (Malaysian Football League). It needs to be checked by the authorities.
“Malaysian football is entertaining but the environment is not. This could be one of the reasons for the dwindling crowd at the stadiums. Parents would not want to bring their children to stadiums to watch matches.
“In Europe, such vulgar fans are banned. This should also be implemented here in Malaysia if football is to be made a family entertainment. The vulgar words used on me hurt me and I am voicing this out so that the necessary action can be taken,” added.
Coming back to the match, Satianathan said: “We conceded silly goals. At the same time, the performance of the referee needs to be noted. It was poor refereeing overall.”
Selangor also saw red when K. Sarkunan was given the sack when he kicked the ball straight at the referee to show his frustration for another poor decision by the match official. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
