THE Malaysian double handed sailors in the International 470 and International 420 Men’s events are looking good to secure gold ahead of their SEA Games medal races on Sunday 27 August.
Muhamad Uzair Amin Mohd Yusof and Naquib Eiman Shahrin have led the table of the International 420 Men’s event from the start of the fleet races and they aim to maintain the momentum to deliver the goods for Malaysia.
“We feel good, but need to make sure that we do not make major mistakes tomorrow,” said Naquib Eiman.
It is the same with the International 470 Men’s combination of Mohamad Faizal Norizan and Ahmad Syukri Abdul Aziz, who also topped the leaderboard with 12 points ahead of sailors from Thailand with 19 points and the Philippines with 22 points.
“We need to maintain our focus for the medal race. Our strategy each day differs, depending on factors like wind situation and current,” said Mohamad Faizal.
Mother nature had again threatened to disrupt the scheduled races on the sixth day of competition with heavy showers in the afternoon. However, Principal Race Officer Ilker Bayindir managed to send the sailors out to sea around 4pm and by shortening the respective courses, he was able to conclude most of the
races scheduled for all eleven categories.
In other races held today, Malaysia continue to lead in both the Optimist Boys and Girls categories and the Laser Radial (Men) while coming in second for Laser Radial (Women), Laser Standard, International 470 (Women) and RS One (Women). Malaysia is currently third in International 420 (Women) and RS One (Men).
