SEAGF APPROVES SETTING UP OF BROADCAST COMMITTEE
THE SEA Games Federation (SEAGF) has approved the setting up of a committee which governs broadcasting rights for SEA Games, the region’s biggest sporting extravaganza.
In its meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (21 March), SEAGF Executive Committee approved the proposal to form a Broadcast Committee which will oversee broadcasting aspects including rights and management in the SEA Games.
This, according to SEAGF President Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Jaafar will avoid the issue of monopoly by broadcasting organisations during the Games.
Except Cambodia, the meeting was attended by all SEAGF members.
Said Tan Sri Tunku Imran: “The SEAGF Broadcasting Committee will act to ensure that all broadcasting aspects and rights for SEA Games are properly governed.”
“This include sharing profits derived from broadcasting fairly to broadcasting organisations in other member countries,” said Tan Sri Tunku Imran.
In view of the establishment of more private and commercial stations in future, SEAGF needs to regulate the broadcasting aspects to avoid monopoly.
“Some of the public broadcasters may not be able to cover all sports during the Games. The private and commercial stations need to share their profits with the respective NOCs, SEAGF and organisers so that everybody gains,” he said.
The SEAGF Broadcasting Committee will be made up of representatives from all member countries and chaired by the host country.
