It took a while but Siti Zulaikha Azmi breezed into the semifinals of the Women’s Singles PETRONAS Malaysia International Series 2024 with a straight set victory over her opponent from Singapore.

The second-seeded Siti Zulaikha certainly showed that she was deserving of her ranking in the tournament this year when she followed up her win over China’s Shou Qun Yu in the quarterfinals yesterday to beat Joelle Chee Jie Ya from Singapore this afternoon.

The Melaka lass was patient throughout the 42-minute exchange to win 21-16, 21-18.

Siti Zulaikha’s opponent in the semifinals tomorrow is Guo Xin Yi from China.

The 19-year-old Xin Yi coasted to a 21-12, 21-16 victory over third seed Nutnalin Rattanapanuwong from Thailand to confirm her slot in the next round.

In the meantime, Malaysia’s hope for another representative in the semifinals was dashed when Ong Xin Yee fell to a 13-21, 21-14, 10-21 loss to China’s Luo Sheng Xuan.

Compatriot Oo Shan Zi also fared no better in her quarterfinal clash against Qiu Zi Ying from China with the latter scoring 21-12, 15-21, 21-16 for her place in the final four of the Women’s Singles.
