# RM23,000 richer with 13-10 win over Petaling BC
Serdang BC registered a 13-10 win over Petaling BC to take seventh place in the Resorts World Genting Champions Challenge 2016 at the Arena of Star in Genting Highlands on Friday.
With the victory Serdang BC pocketed RM23,000 in prize money. They also won RM60,000 in the Purple League after finishing eighth in the 12-team league.
Petaling BC settled for RM18,000 to add to the RM90,000 earned for their fifth place in the league.
Serdang BC had to wait till the last match of the tie – the second men’s singles match between Xie Binyu and Petaling BC’s Chen Tang Jie. The 20-year-old Chinese lad carved out a 11-10, 5-11, 8-11, 11-8, 11-5 win in a five thriller.
Earlier Adam Lau had given Serdang BC a narrow 3-2 lead with a 4-11, 11-3. 8-11, 11-5 win over Tan Vi Hen in the opening men’s singles match.
In the women’s singles Xu Wei further stretched Serdang BC’s lead to 6-4 when she came back from a set down to beat Petaling BC’s World Ranked No 72 Elisabeth Purwaningtyas 8-11, 11-9, 11-10, 9-11, 11-8.
Petaling BC were back in the picture Ardidansyah Putra-Devi Tika Permatasari defeated Serdang BC’s Pei Tiangyi-Wu Qianqian 10-11, 11-10, 11-4, 11-6 in the mixed doubles to make it 7-7 for both teams.
The men’s doubles pair of Alfred Lau-Chua Khek Wei gave Serdang BC the boost when they won their men’s doubles match against Chen Jia Huo=Ng Di Hua after a losing the first 8-11, 11-4, 11-10, 11-10.
It was left to Xie Binyu to seal the match for Serdang BC.
Serdang BC manager Ong Ewe Hock said the prize money will be shared by the players after the club’s takes a certain amount for development and participation in next year’s league.
“I am pleased that as the lowest ranked team in the Champions Challenge we managed seventh place. It is a big boost to the young players who will be better prepared for next season,” said Ewe Hock.
Petaling BC manager Wong Ah Jit said the absence of national players who had to answer the call-up for national training affected the team. We had to depend on rookies but they did well overall,” said Ah Jit.
