The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) dropped a bombshell when bowling queen Shalin Zulkifli was not named in the Malaysian team for the Women’s World Championships in Las Vegas from Aug 22-30.
The 41-year-old best known Malaysian kegler played a key role in Malaysia’s team gold at the same championships in 2017 also in Las Vegas.
Shalin’s place in the team has gone to Sarawakian Nerosha Keligit, a 22-year-old who only broke into the senior team last year but is hailed as a bowler who has the right ingredients to be a world-class bowler.
While Shalin will ponder over her bowling career it is a big breakthrough for Nerosha who will join seasoned bowlers Sin Li Jane, Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, Natasha Roslan, Esther Cheah and Syaidatul Afifah Badrul Hamidi in Las Vegas.
Nerosha was quoted in local dailies that she hopes to contribute and help the team defend the gold in the world championships.
Shalin was quoted as saying “I’m not sure” when asked her bowling career. She was also quoted as saying “life goes on” as she had given her best to make the team.
The five-time national champion, in the true spirit of sportsmanship and national pride, added “I will pray for the team’s success and support them in any way she can.
