# Indonesia win two titles in Seoul
# Gingting upsets Christie to win men’s singles title
P.V. Sindhu won her second Super Series title this year and became the first Indian to win a Korea Open title – defeating Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in the women’s singles final in the USD600,000 Yonex Korea Open Super Series on Sunday.
It was also sweet revenge for the lanky Indian – ranked No 4 in the world – gunning down the Japanese with a 22-20, 11-21, 21-18 win in 68 minutes to avenge her defeat by Okuhara in last month’s World Championships final in Glasgow.
In the world final Sindhu and Okuhara were locked in a one hour 50 minute battle before the Japanese prevailed 21-19, 20-22, 22-20. It was the second longest match in the women’s singles – a minute short than Okuhara ‘s match against China’s Wang Yihan in the 2015 Malaysia Open at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
It was another three game battle in Seoul but this time it was Sindhu’s turn to celebrate as she put an end to Okuhara’s-14 match unbeate. The head to head count between Sindhu and Okuhara, the World No 9, now stands at 4-4.
It was a first too for Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting who won the men’s singles final – defeating compatriot Jonatan Christie in an all-Indonesia final.
Playing in their first Super Series final Ginting came off a 21-13, 19-21, 22-20 winner in 68 minutes. Ginting is ranked No 24 while Christie, winner of the Sea Games gold medal in Kuala Lumpur last month is ranked No 22.
It has been a great run for Ginting, 22, in Seoul. He pulled off a major upset in the semi-finals when he knocked out World No 1 and top seed Son Wan-ho of Korea, which gave his confidence a shot in the arm.
Korea ended the home tournament without winning any title after third seeds Chang Ye-na-Lee So-hee came unstuck against China’s Huang Yaqiong-Yu Xiaohan 11-21, 15-21 in the women’s doubles final.
Indonesia won their second title in Seoul through former All-England champions and fourth seeds Praveen Jordan-Debby Susanto winning the mixed doubles title. The Indonesians won 21-17, 21-18 against China’s Wang Yilyu-Huang Dongping in the final.BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
