The Singapore Under-22 team is in Japan for their final tune-up ahead of the SEA Games 2019 which kicks off in less than a month in the Philippines.
The 23-man squad under head coach Fandi Ahmad will be in Japan until 7 November 2019 where they have been slated to play against Takushoku University and Nihon Taiiku University which are in the second division of the Kanto University Football League.
“This training camp is crucial in our preparations for the SEA Games. We have limited opportunities to train together as a full squad hence it is important for the players to be completely focused and use this camp to show us that they have what it takes to represent Singapore,” said Fandi.
“We want to give every player who is travelling for this training camp a fair chance to express themselves on the field and fight for a place in the SEA Games squad.”
Singapore have been drawn in Group B of the SEA Games alongside Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos and Brunei.
Singapore will open their campaign against Laos on 26 November 2019.
For this year’s meet, teams are allowed to register up to two over-aged players for the meet which has been pegged for the U22.
