After a Milan court suspended a previous deal involving Spanish group Mediapro, rivals Sky and Perform reached a fresh agreement for TV rights to Italy’s top flight Serie A on Wednesday.
Serie A president Gaetano Micciche said the new deal would be worth at least 973 million euros for matches between 2018-2021.
“The deal could be 20 per cent higher depending on how many subscribers Sky and Perform get and how much money they make,” Micciche said.
In February, Mediapro outbid Sky for domestic television rights to Serie A, agreeing to pay 1.05 billion euros ($1.3 billion) a year for the period 2018 to 2021, but Sky argued that the Spanish company was not in a legal position to make an offer.
Sky has apparently bid 780 million euros for 266 matches while Perform will pay 193 million for 114 games. – Agence France-Presse
