The Malaysia Futsal national team made a smashing start to their Group A campaign of the ASEAN Futsal Championship 2024 when they whitewashed Brunei Darusssalam 11-0.

Playing in their first game of the competition, the Malaysians saw Syahir Iqbal Khan Akbar Khan firing in a hattrick (11th, 22nd and 36th minute) as Syed Aizad Daniel Syed Nasir (4th and 25th),  Ridzwan Bakri (7th and 33rd) and Faris Johan (27th and 40th) were on the double each.

Awalluddin Mat Nawi (21st) and Abu Haniffa Hasan (26th) scored the other goals for Malaysia.

In the meantime, Thailand followed up from yesterday’s 13-0 victory over Brunei Darussalam with a 7-1 demolition of Timor Leste.

The Thais got to work with the early pressure as Miguel Correia Lay Fernandes conceded an own goal in the third minute.

Thailand then stretched to a 4-0 lead at halftime, thanks to goals from Chaowala Sriarwut in the seventh minute, Amarin Akapan (12th), and Thanawat Koedbangrachan (13th).

Even though Timor Leste pulled a goal back in the 21st minute through Joao Paul Canizio De Sousa, the Thais then piled on the goals off Atippong Munphlai (24th), Therdsak Charoenphong (28th) and Atippong Munphlai (38th).
