Malaysia’s ace sprinter Khairul Hafiz Jantan joined senior F&N officials and other runners to celebrate the arrival of the Kuala Lumpur 2017 Torch Run at the F&N plant in Shah Alam today. Datuk Azhari Bin Dato’ Shaari, Ketua Umno Bahagian Shah Alam, was the Guest-of-Honour who also took part in the run.
Y.A.M. Tengku Syed Badarudin Jamalullail, Chairman Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd, Mr Lim Yew Hoe, CEO Fraser & Neave Holdings Bhd, Mr Lai Ming Kong, Senior Vice President, Domestic Commercial Operations, Datuk Azhari and Khairul were among some 600 runners who took part in today’s leg of the Torch Run.
Organised in conjunction with the 29th SEA Games and the 9th ASEAN Para Games, the Torch Run started in Johor in May and has made its way around the country. It is now on its final stretch in the state of Selangor before concluding in Kuala Lumpur ahead of the grand opening of the KL SEA Games on Aug 19.
The Torch Run route in Selangor included a stop at the F&N plant as 100PLUS is a Silver Sponsor of KL2017. 100PLUS, the nation’s No.1 isotonic beverage, will be served to athletes and officials of the games.
“We are delighted to be a part of the KL2017 Torch Run. 100PLUS has actively supported the run as it traversed the entire country including in Sabah and Sarawak,” said Mr Lim Yew Hoe. “As for Khairul, he is a remarkable athlete with a very bright future. What’s amazing about him is his yearning to achieve the best results each time he competes. This is evident from his recent string of successes. This attitude lives up to the ideals of the brand and this is why we decided to sign him. I am confident he will continue to attain more accolades and in the process bring honour and glory to the country.”
Khairul, who recently surpassed Tan Sri Dr M. Jegathesan’s 49-year-old 200-metre national record, is a potential multiple gold medallist at KL SEA Games later this month. He is the current national 100-metre record-holder. The 19-year-old track star will compete in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m races.
“At KL2017, Khairul and all the athletes will be provided with 100PLUS Active which is a non-carbonated beverage. For the record, 100PLUS Active was launched in conjunction with KL2017 in May at the 100-day Countdown. It will be the ideal drink for the athletes aiming to achieve peak performances in their quest for medals.”
Khairul’s presence today created a lot of excitement amongst the runners and F&N staff. “Everyone was thrilled when they realised Khairul was involved in the run.”
