It is an experience he will remember for the rest of his life for Johor silat exponent Daing Hassanal Sofri although he was on the losing end in his first round bout against Melaka’s Mohamad Rashidi in the Olahraga competition in Putra D category at Dewan Sukan Rakyat, Kompleks Sukan Negeri in Kangar yesterday.
The Johor lad who his sitting for his Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) had to sit for two of his examination papers – Bahasa Malaysia and History – in Kangar.
He sat for his papers at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Datuk Sheikh Ahmad in Kangar on Wednesday and yesterday after special arrangements were made for him – thanks to the Johor Education Department and their Perlis counterparts.
Putting that aside, Daing Hassanal, 16, however, is not losing any sleep over his defeat to Mohamad Rashidi – a national silat exponent with a wealth of experience behind him in his first Sukma.
“It was a good experience for me. I knew it was tough for me fighting an international. I am richer in experience,” said Daing Hassanal.
“Losing to Mohamad Rashidi is certainly not the end of my silat career.”
