The Kedah athletes, calling themselves as ‘Satria Kedah’ have been set a high target of achieving 50 gold medals at the 17th Malaysian Games (Sukma) in Perlis from May 24-June 4.
Aminuddin Omar, the chairman of the State Executive Committee for Youth and Sports Committee described the 50 gold medals target as “realistic” and believes that it is within reach of the Kedah athletes.
The Kedah contingent is now in its final lap of preparations.
Aminuddin also revealed that the Kedah gold medallists will be “amply rewarded” by the state government – an incentive that will spur the athletes to hit gold in their respective events.
“The rewards are there but let the amount be a secret for the time being. This will keep them (the athletes) on their toes and not slack in their training,” he added.
Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir had this to say to the Kedah athletes:
“Winning the gold medal is not only for self glory but also for the state. The Sukma is the stepping stone for the young talent to take their sporting glory to greater heights…like representing the nation in international meets.”
