Continuing our pre-season testing for Super GT, we visited Fuji for the final two days on track before the opening round of the season.
Snow was in the forecast for Sunday, so to pre-empt this our Saturday running was extending to 5 hours of track time, during which all 45 cars seeked out any final breakthroughs in speed.
I felt immediately comfortable in the Gulf Racing Porsche at Fuji, completing long runs, tyre & brake testing in the build-up to a final ‘green’ (new tyre) push which was good enough for third overall, and the leading Porsche.
Sure enough, Sunday dawned white, freezing and with increasing snowfall which cancelled all of the day’s running, meaning an early bath and an early beer for our hard-working team.
It’s all on now. My goals for the season have been adjusted. I believe we can be an outright challenger and that’s a prospect that is incredibly exciting.
I’m looking forward to our team launch at the Marriot Hotel in Nagoya tomorrow, before returning to NZ for a week ahead of the Okayama 300km race on April 8-9.
