As Sydney FC from Australia remained perfect after two matches, Thailand’s Bangkok FC slumped to their first defeat in the AFC Women’s Club Championship™ 2023 in Uzbekistan.

Sydney FC secured a 2-1 win over FC Nasaf of Uzbekistan in Group B as Bangkok FC collapsed to a 6-1 loss to Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies in their second game of Group A.

Sydney FC, who defeated Bam Khatoon 3-0 on opening day, found the opener in the 33rd minute when Taylor Ray sent a defence splitting pass for Fiona Worts to slot the ball under the on-rushing FC Nasaf keeper Maftuna Jonimqulova.

Two minutes into the second half, Sydney FC doubled the advantage with Worts knocking in the goal off a pass from Princess Ibini.

FC Nasaf’s captain Nilufar Kudratova fired in a curler late in the game for the final scoreline.

The win for Sydney FC has set up a perfect showdown with Hyundai Steel Red Angels Women’s FC of Korea Republic for the top spot, with the latter having beaten Iran’s Bam Khatoon with the same 2-1 scoreline in the other game of the day.

On Sunday, in the final game of Group B, FC Nasaf will take on Bam Khatoon.

In Group A in Thailand, hosts Bangkok FC were whitewashed 6-1 by Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies of Japan.

Urawa’s goals were scored by Kiko Seike (6th, 9th and 84th minute), Kazue Ando (21st and 36th) and Mei Shimada (51st).

The lone Bangkok FC goal was scored by Kanyanat Chetthabutr, three minutes to the end.
