Goodwood Hockey Team’s chances for the overall title took a bump when they lost to IR UC 0-1 at the Pandamaran Hockey Stadium on Saturday.
Both the teams went into the game knowing a victory would allow them to keep pace with table toppers Senil Solution who had the weekend off.
The match was pretty even with both sides failing to capitalize on their chances although it took a turn in the 37th minute when Umpire Mohd Naqib flashed Goodwood’s Anbalagan Jayabalan a yellow card for a poor tackle with the ensuing argument then turning it to red.
A man down, Goodwood could not hold off IRHC for long as they surged forward looking for the winner.
And it came in the 47th minute thruough IRHC’s Mohd Hisyam Abu Seman who was at the right time and place to convert his team’s penalty corner.
Goodwood almost snatched a draw in the dying minutes when Manpreet Singh and Devan Rajandran failed to trap an aerial ball in the semi circle with only an empty goal mouth in front of them.
In another match, IIUM Mustang continued their winning streak as they edged out Selayang B 3-2 in a closely fought match.
In the School Division, SJI Warriors scored five minutes from time to beat Pengkalang Permatang 3-2 and maintain their hold on top of the table while Star Klang and Sains Selangor battled to a 2-2 draw.
Star Klang have to thank Mohd Aiman Anwar who scored in the last minute to level the score.
