Thai League 1 will have just 16 teams from the current 18 for the 2019 season following a meeting between the FA of Thailand (FAT) and all stakeholders this week.
With just five teams opposing the move to have reduced number of teams in 2019, the proposal was then approved which will see five teams being relegated at the end of the current season.
Three teams will then be promoted from Thai League 2.
“This means the majority of clubs agree to the move,” said FAT President Somyot Poompunmuang.
“So five teams will be relegated at the end of the 2018 season to open way for a 16-team league.”
