The Cambodia national Futsal team will hold several friendlies in Thailand as part of their preparation for the AFF HDBank Futsal Championship 2019.
The AFF HDBank Futsal Championship this year will be held on 21-27 Oct 2019 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
“At the moment, we have 25 players with us which we have chosen from the domestic Futsal league,” said Cambodia head coach Phan Sophannara.
“We will be playing some friendly matches this week against local clubs which will allow us to trim the squad to 14 players.
“And it is these 14 players whom we will be bringing to Bangkok for several playing games before heading straight to Vietnam.”
For the AFF HDBank Futsal Championship, the Cambodians have been placed in Group A against multiple champions Thailand, Myanmar, and Timor Leste.
It is only the third time that Cambodia will be taking part in this annual tournament where they have to make the cut for the semifinals in the last two editions in 2012 and 2018.
This year’s meet is important as it is also being used as the qualifiers for the AFC Futsal Championship in 2020.
“Naturally we are looking at making the next round but it will not be easy against several seasoned campaigners,” he added.
