Thailand claimed their second AFC U-14 Girls’ Regional Championship for the ASEAN zone title after beating the Philippines 1-0 in Sunday’s final, and also won the MVP Award thanks to the efforts of midfielder Pattaranan Aupachai.
The Thais won four of five games on their way to the title, a repeat of the 2014 finale where Nophodol Pibulvech’s side defeated the Philippines 2-1 to clinch their inaugural crown.
The champions of last year’s edition Vietnam, meanwhile, finished third following their 2-1 win in Sunday’s other game over 2013 and 2015 third-place winners Myanmar, who wrapped up the 2016 campaign with the Fair Play and Top Scorer accolades through the exploits of Myat Noe Khin who netted four times for Nu Nu Khine Win’s side.
