English Premier League (EPL) side Liverpool Football Club (LFC) received a typical Malaysian style welcome at the Saujana Hotel Resort in Subang last night.
Players of the club, better known as ‘The Reds’, arrived at the resort at 9pm and were welcomed with kompang beats, flower garlands and the ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ chants and club songs from around 100 highly enthusiastic fans.
LFC are expected to field their first squad against Dollah Salleh’s Malaysia Selection on Friday night at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in an international friendly fixture.
“We (fans) want take this opportunity to see the players in person and enjoy their game live in our own country. I hope they will enjoy the food here and no matter what, we will keep supporting them,” said hardcore fan Mohd Aizad Hassan.
Meanwhile, another fan, S. Puvarasan said he and his friends were very excited with the club’s arrival and eager to watch the Friday game.
“We have been waiting here for five hours to see the players and are happy to finally see them. For (Steven) Gerrad, we will miss him but we are confident that there would be another Gerrard soon from Anfield,” the 29-year-old said.
A press conference is scheduled on Wednesday evening at the resort, while an official training session is scheduled on Thursday evening at the national stadium.
Besides that, the star studded squad is also scheduled to engage in various activities with the local fans throughout their stay in Malaysia.
The Reds started their pre-season tour by gunning Thai All Stars 4-0 in Bangkok on July 14 before defeating A-League sides, Brisbane Roar 2-1 on Friday and securing a 2-0 win over Adelaide United yesterday at Australia.
The Reds will continue their journey to Northern Europe for their last pre-season tour match against Finnish side, HJK Helsinki on Aug 1 at the 10,770 capacity Sonera Stadium in Helsinki.
Match tickets for LFC against Malaysia Selection are priced at RM58 (student), RM88, RM158, and RM228 with a limited number of VIP seats available at RM428 and RM328.
