THUNDERBOLTS today showed UniKL Young Guns they still have a long way to go if they cherish laying their hands on the MILO Junior Hockey League (MJHL) Division One title.
For Thunderbolts hammered UniKL 4-1 and have one hand firmly on the trophy as they have KL Sports School to beat, to confirm winning the title and the RM15,000 prize money that comes with it.
It was the failure of UniKL penalty corner battery that let them down in the first half as they were awarded three but could not find a way towards goal.
The strikeforce was poor to say the least as they failed to find the mark despite creating good chances that could have easily been put away.
UniKL were tactically outclassed as their players had no idea how to cope with the defensive strategy adopted by Thunderbolts in the early part of the match. That coupled with a lackadaisical attitude, put paid to their hopes of wresting the title from Thunderbolts, who thoroughly deserved the win and title.
Despite being awarded two penalty corners early on, UniKL who faced a problem in this department from day one, failed to get it right.
And Thunderbolts punished them four minutes before halftime as Aminuddin Mohd Zain converted a penalty corner to give them the lead going into halftime.
In the 40th minute Thunderbolts increased their tally as Aminuddin found the mark yet again and UniKL were stunned.
More was to come as Thunderbolts weaved their magic and scored a third in the 52nd minute through Najib Hassan.
Though UniKL pulled a goal back in the 56th minute via Irwan Ishak, they paid the price for the misses in the first half.
Ammar Zahari pull the nail into the coffin by adding the fourth in the 67th minute.
