The TOTAL BWF Thomas and Uber Cup draw ceremony was held in Kunshan, China on the 21 March 2016.
The Malaysian Thomas Cup team has been drawn in Group C with Korea, England and Germany. While, the Uber Cup team are in Group A with China, Denmark and Spain.
BAM’s Technical Director, Morten Frost was pleased with the outcome of the draw and states that both teams have equal chances of doing well in this prestigious World Team Championships held every two years in the BWF (Badminton World Federation) calendar.
“The Thomas and Uber Cup has always been an exciting event in the Badminton world. As like the Rio Olympics, we will be well prepared and ready for the challenges that awaits us.
The Thomas Cup team has a good draw, and should be able to overcome Germany and England. I predict it would be a good fight between Malaysia and Korea to top Group C.
Likewise, the Uber Cup has a fighting chance against Denmark and Spain. Thus, giving them the edge to make it to the Quarterfinals stage. Our women’s team have improved in the last few months, and I look forward to see some good performances from them.”
The final list of nominated players is expected to be announced late April once the BAM’s Coaching & Training Committee makes the final decision on the Thomas and Uber Cup list.
The players have in these coming two months (March & April) to prove themselves to be selected into the Thomas and Uber team.
