Vietnam’s preparation for the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 next month suffered a hiccup this week following the injury to key defender Vu Van Thanh.
Van Thanh was outstanding at this year’s AFC Under-23 Championship in China earlier in the year and also at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
The Vietnam squad led by head coach Park Hang-seo finished second in China and fourth in Indonesia.
“I regret that he (Van Thanh) could not make this competition. He is an important player and I have not found any substitute who could fill his place,” said Park.
