Vietnam will utilise players from the U20 for the AFF Under-22 Championship this month in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
With most of their U22 players already playing at two tough competitions of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018 and then the AFC Asian Cup 2019, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) have decided to use players from the U20 instead.
“If all of us gather together, a lot of good players can be called. Some others are preparing for the V.League which will launch at the same time as this tournament. After the match with Ulsan Huyndai, I also have to return three players to Viettel,” said head coach Nguyen Quoc Tuan.
“The most important thing now is the bond between players, as people come from different clubs and our training time is quite short.”
Over the past few months, the team have played four friendly matches to gain experience.
