Indonesia Under-17 head coach Bima Sakti has apologised to the Indonesian populace over the team’s inability to make the cut to the Round of 16 of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup 2023.

With Mexico beating New Zealand 4-0 and Burkina Faso edging South Korea 2-1, it snuffed out Indonesia’s chances of making the knockout stage of the competition when they could not emerge as one of the four best third-placed teams.

“We apologise to all Indonesian people for not qualifying for the Round of 16 of the FIFA U17 World Cup. Thank you for all the prayers and support given to us,” said Bima.

“All the players have fought hard, to the maximum of their ability. Playing in this event has truly been an extraordinary experience for us.

“These players will have a bright future given their potential. These players will next be prepared for the Indonesian U20 team next year with coach Indra Sjafri who incidentally will take part in various international tournaments.”
