The result against South Korea might have been hard to swallow but Vietnam head coach Philippe Troussier prefers to look at the positives more than anything else.

The two-time ASEAN champions ended their three-match series during this month’s FIFA Match Days with a 6-0 defeat at the hands of South Korea – after earlier losses to China (2-0) and Uzbekistan (2-0).

“We lost to South Korea with a score of 6-0. If we just look at the score, I know it is difficult to realise right now that we have actually achieved certain positive points,” said Troussier.

“The match (against South Korea) was even better than the matches in June and September as well as the last two matches against China and Uzbekistan.”

The Vietnam team is being prepared for the Second Round qualifiers of the FIFA World Cup 2026 where they will take on the Philippines on 16 November 2023 as their first game in Group F.

The other teams in the group are Iraq and Indonesia.
