They sought glory through illegal means and are now paying a heavy price for using oxymetholone and stanozolol – both banned substances – in their weightlifting career.

The Malaysian Weightlifting Federation (MWF) has come down hard on five national weightlifters and put them in cold storage with four-year bans on all five – including 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Hafifi Mansor and 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Fazrul Azrie.
Â
Hafifi was tested positive for using oxymetholone while competing in the Australian Open Championships in March 2017. His ban runs through March 2021.
Â
Fazrul was tested positive for stanozolol. Three others from the national back-up squad Hakimie Haikal Nordin, Muhamad Zaidi Mohd Nordin, and Ronny Jesos – were found also found positive for the same drug. Their ban runs till March 2022.
MWF president Datuk Ayub Rahmat said in a statement: “These athletes will not be allowed to get involved in any weightlifting activities during their suspension.”
