GOLD COAST, 7 April — Atlet angkat berat negara Muhammad Fazrul Azrie Mohdad menunjukkan pingat gangsa yang diraihnya selepas berjaya mengangkat 183kg dalam acara clean & jerk dan mengumpul jumlah angkatan 328kg pada temasya Sukan Komanwel 2018 di Carrara Sports Arena hari ini.

They sought glory through illegal means and are now paying a heavy price for using oxymetholone and stanozolol – both banned substances – in their weightlifting career.

 
The Malaysian Weightlifting Federation (MWF) has come down hard on five national weightlifters and put them in cold storage with four-year bans on all five – including 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Hafifi Mansor and 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Fazrul Azrie.
 
Hafifi was tested positive for using oxymetholone while competing in the Australian Open Championships in March 2017. His ban runs through March 2021.
 
Fazrul was tested positive for stanozolol. Three others from the national back-up squad Hakimie Haikal Nordin, Muhamad Zaidi Mohd Nordin, and Ronny Jesos – were found also found positive for the same drug. Their ban runs till March 2022.
MWF president Datuk Ayub Rahmat said in a statement: “These athletes will not be allowed to get involved in any weightlifting activities during their suspension.”
Malaysian weightlifters have a history of using banned substances in their weightlifting career. At the recent Sukma (National Games) in Perak, three weightlifters were tested positive for doping. – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
