Belgian rider Tim Wellens of the Lotto-Soudal team grabbed the overall Tour of Benelux lead by winning Saturday’s sixth stage over 208.6km from Heerlen in the Netherlands to Houffalize in Belgium.
Wellens, 24, won a solo run for the line ahead of compatriot Greg Van Avermaet of BMC and Germany’s Simon Geschke of the Giant-Alpecin team who was 50sec off the pace
The Belgian took the race lead from Dutchman Wilco Kelderman of Lotto NL-Jumbo, who crossed in tenth place at 1min 17sec.
With one stage remaining, defending champion Wellens leads Van Avermaet by over a minute.
Sunday’s final stage covers 188.6km from Saint-Pieters-Leeuw to Geraardsbergen in Belgium. –Â Agence France-Presse
